The Interzonal Embarkation Center opened at Camp Grohn on 30 September 1948 with 3,500 places. A transfer document of 14 February 1949 is the nominal roll of more than 380 displaced persons leaving the Resettlement Center at Amberg for Bremen-Grohn to emigrate to the United States. The usual stay in the staging area was about two weeks, and sailings averaged about 1,200 emigrants every two to three days.
