Bathurst Reception Centre → Parkes Holding Centre
Millie Schillick recalled the camp through her parents Ivan and Sonia Schillich: the family reached Sydney from Naples six days before the Parkes centre opened, went first to Bathurst, and then travelled by train to Parkes, where they were given a small room with thin partitions in a long hut. Kate Babij traces a parallel route for her mother Anna, who arrived in Sydney in September 1949 and went to Bathurst, then to Parkes in October while her father Nikola began work at the Emmco factory in Orange.
