Daria Valkenburg traces her father Wasyl Makota's journey from Camp Ohio to Britain and then Canada. He entered the camp in October 1945 and left in April 1948 through the Westward Ho! recruitment programme, working in agriculture in Scotland before mining training and employment, and playing music with other Ukrainians. He later applied to Canada and reached Halifax in June 1951, an example of resettlement made of several moves rather than one journey.
