From November 1946 detainees began to be released from Cyprus at 750 a month against immigration certificates, half the monthly British quota, and completed their detention at Atlit. About 11,000 internees, mainly men of military age, still remained on Cyprus in August 1948, when the British began moving them at 1,500 a month.
