Kateryna Horbul was from Synkiv and recorded as Ukrainian by nationality. She was taken for forced labour near Pegnitz in Bavaria in 1942 and was still registered there when her daughter Maria was born in July 1945. She landed at Newcastle in September 1949, was sent to the Greta centre to work in the kitchens and left Maria in an orphanage at Maitland, and mother and daughter came to Benalla together in August 1957.
