The Hellenic Prince's first IRO voyage, Naples to Sydney, 1949

The Hellenic Prince had been launched at Cockatoo Docks in Sydney in 1928 as the seaplane carrier HMAS Albatross and was torpedoed off Normandy in 1944 as HMS Albatross. Bought by the Yannoulatos group in November 1948 and converted at Barry by September 1949 for 1,200 people in 200 cabins and dormitories, she arrived at Sydney from Naples on 5 December 1949 with 1,000 displaced persons on her first IRO voyage.
