Rimini students to Barcelona and Madrid, December 1946

Rimini camp, ItalyColegio Santiago Apóstol, Madrid

The first group of eighteen Ukrainian students reached Barcelona by sea on Christmas Day 1946 and continued to Madrid. Seven more arrived from Italy in February 1947. Their route began among students held in the Rimini prisoner-of-war camp, and the scholarships came out of the 1946 Pax Romana congress, which addressed the predicament of displaced university students.
