Rimini camp, Italy → Camp 82, Hempton Green
Camp 82 at Hempton Green took 1,001 of the Ukrainians transferred from Rimini in 1947, the largest number held at any one camp. The men worked on Norfolk farms under Ministry of Agriculture contracts, taken out in lorries by drivers known as gangers. Local recollections describe potato harvesting, a workshop making tools and toys, and the coloured patches the men had to wear on their jackets.
