Research on refugee reception in Brazil describes arrivals through Rio de Janeiro and the Ilha das Flores hostel, followed by transfer to Campo Limpo when São Paulo was the initial destination. The disused coffee warehouses beside the railway served as the state's provisional hostel from 1947 because the Brás building was occupied by an aviation school. Ukrainians were the second largest group registered there, 1,386 entries in three years, before moving on to work in and around the city.
