Another Ukrainian family reached Halifax aboard the Samaria on 27 March 1949, after a relative in Canada made contact following a notice in a Ukrainian newspaper and arranged sponsorship through the Red Cross. At Pier 21 they were directed onto a train for Regina, and their memories emphasise the cold, uncomfortable journey and the long stretches of forest and prairie. In Regina they shared their sponsor's home while the mother found work and learned English.
