May 1947
Somme-Kaserne, Augsburg → Herbesthal, Belgium
The first departures from Somme-Kaserne for work in the Belgian coal mines came in May 1947. A surviving UNRRA movement roster, its cover dated 29 May 1947, names Somme-Kaserne and Belgium, and the wagon lists give Herbesthal as the destination. The movement and date are clear, but the sheets do not settle a passenger total: the cover reads 389 while a later annotation gives 331.
