“Migrants at Cowra”: the army camp becomes a holding centre

The army camp converted, May 1949. The National Advocate reported that 150 workmen were turning the former army camp at Cowra into the largest holding centre in Australia for the wives and children of migrants already at work, that families were arriving by bus from Bathurst at several hundred a week, and that the new centre would have its own hospital and medical and dental staff.
