The centre announced, March 1949. The Forbes Advocate reported that the former Parkes air school would be converted for 1,000 migrants, that the Immigration Department was taking over every building except those used by the Civil Aviation Department, that occupation was hoped for at the end of May or early in June, and that a school would teach English to older people and children alike.
