The end of the arrangement, reported in Melbourne. In February 1952 the Victorian premier said the state would try to buy the Watsonia huts from the Commonwealth and move them elsewhere, and asked for a reprieve for the 120 families under threat of eviction; the Immigration Minister told Federal Parliament that about sixty migrants living in a holding centre attached to the Watsonia housing settlement were to be transferred to other accommodation.
